How to apply

Applications for entry in September are taken throughout the year. We do not set a deadline but recommend that applications are submitted before July 31st. If the course is full, priority will be given to early applicants. Applications are handled through the UCL Graduate School from the Application and Entry section of their web site. In addition, please inform us directly that you have applied by e-mailing MedImComp@medphys.ucl.ac.uk

The course is registered in the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering and the UCL course codes (not ATAS JACS codes) are:
        TMSMICSING01   MSc  Masters    (180 credits)
TPPMICSING01   PG Dip  Graduate Diploma   (120 credits)

We may also offer a PG Certificate (60 credits).

Note that part-time students must complete the taught part of the course in one academic year - see the 'Part-time study' menu option for further information.

The minimum entry qualification is a UK 2:2 degree or equivalent. We normally expect to admit only those with at least a UK 2:1 or equivalent. The degree should be in a relevant subject. We may interview candidates in person or by telephone. There is also an English language proficiency requirement for those whose first language is not English. More details are on the UCL  Application and Entry web site. We do consider applications from those medically qualified provided they have a strong interest in computing, physics and maths.

If you use the UCL Application and Entry web site, I recommend you keep a copy of the PDF generated by the online process. Also, make sure the site has not truncated any important part of your postal address.

Applicants from outside the European Union

ATAS and Points-Based Immigration

Applicants for this MSc from outside the European Union need to get ATAS approval from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. This should take around 2 weeks. The JACS code associated with the course is:

F350 (Medical Physics)

ATAS  (Academic Technology Approval Scheme)  is the name of a scheme run by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the UK government. Its purpose is to "to stop the spread of knowledge and skills that could be used in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their means of delivery". Applicants from outside the European Union need to  apply for an ATAS certificate to undertake this MSc. Further details are on the ATAS website.

In addition, the UK has now introduced a Points-Based Immigration System. Students from outside the EU will need student (Tier 4) status. The UK Border Agency website has a quick guide for adult students. UCL also provides a web page at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/edliaison/international/pbis.
