Title: Beyond crossing fibres: Dispersion and neighbourhood exploration in tractography.
Abstract:
Tractography is a powerful tool for exploring the connectivity of the brain in vivo via diffusion weighted MRI with great potential to advance our understanding of neurology and disease. However, many current tractography methods are prone to miss known connections due to oversimplified assumptions about variation in white matter structure at the sub-voxel scale such as orientation dispersion and curvature. In this work we make use of measures of neurite orientation dispersion derived from the NODDI technique combined with voxel-neighbourhood exploration to account for complex sub-voxel white matter architecture to improve tractography.
